From NYC to Miami: How Climate Affects Your Hair

By September 1, 2025September 24th, 2025No Comments

One of the things I’ve learned traveling back and forth between New York City and Miami is how much the environment changes your hair. Clients often ask me why their hair looks amazing in one city, but frizzes, flattens, or dries out in another. The answer is simple: climate matters.

Humidity in Miami

Miami’s humid air can be both a blessing and a curse. While moisture in the air can add some natural wave and bounce, it often lifts the hair cuticle, creating frizz and flyaways. To fight humidity, I recommend lightweight anti-frizz products and finishing sprays that hold style in place without weighing hair down.

Dryness in NYC

New York, especially in the winter, has the opposite problem. Indoor heating and cold air outside strip hair of moisture, leaving it brittle, flat, and static-prone. This is when hydrating products like masks, oils, and creams are non-negotiable. Hyaluronic acid and argan oil are two powerhouse ingredients I lean on to restore softness and shine.

Traveling Between Climates

If you move between climates (like many of my clients do), pack smart. I always suggest a core travel set:

  • hydrating shampoo and conditioner to protect against dryness.
  • Anti-Frizz Sheets for quick humidity fixes.
  • •A finishing spray to lock in style anywhere.
Your hair changes with the environment, but with the right products, you’ll be ready for both the sleek sophistication of NYC and the effortless flow of Miami.
